One brutal morning, after the latest knee high accumulation had been dispatched, the mailbox uncovered, patches of ice chipped, I packed a suitcase with my finest tropical clothes and bought a one-way ticket to Mexico. The reward miles people had never booked a one-way ticket before, so it took quite a while. I mean who wouldn't want to return to the best healthcare system in the world? The normally simple procedure took over an hour. This was the universes idea of foreshadowing.
To live in Mexico is to wait for things. To breathe, To enjoy the ride. To stand around with a bemused smile and understand 20 percent of a conversation and say bueno a lot, and mucho gusto. Mucho gusto is a great phrase because it means "It was great to meet you and goodbye", all at the same time. Then it's time for a nap. It's always time for a nap down here. This is life done the right way.
Sure it can get brutally hop, but with a hammock and a fan who really cares? This city has had 500 years to deal with how to deal with the heat and all around the city in the middle of the afternoon you see workers sleeping in the shade somewhere, sometimes right in the middle of the sidewalk, anyplace they can catch a little breeze.
